Yaa-Hemaa is a recording artist recently returned to Vancouver. She is a classically trained pianist and a songwriter who incorporates jazz, soul, R&B, and classical genres into her original pieces. Her journey back to music came about following several twists and turns. After graduating from the University of British Columbia and the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, she began a career as a federal public servant. She realized though that she pined for the fulfillment and contentment she felt when being creative. Yaa-Hemaa took a leap in 2013, booked regular gigs in the city and soon began writing the soulful, intimate, and thought-provoking songs for her first EP, “Come Hear My Voice”. One of those songs, "Sunday", reached the regional semi-finals of CBC's Searchlight: The Hunt for Canada's Best New Artist competition and exposed Yaa-Hemaa’s music to an even wider audience. Yaa-Hemaa's voice has been described as original, hauntingly soulful and ethereal. With “Come Hear My Voice” Yaa-Hemaa is fully embracing her passion and love for music and she looks foreword to sharing her artistry with the world.
